ZeEUS – Zero Emission Urban Bus System

With most metropolitan areas targeting zero-emission environments, an increasing number of cities and transport companies are considering a fully-electric solution for their urban bus network. In this context, the UITP Centre for Training designed this training programme on Electric Buses in cooperation with the Transport Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB). The course will offer a comprehensive overview of the electric solution for urban bus networks, from the setting of a city strategy, the choice of technology and the battery, the procurement of buses, all the way to the implementation and operation of the system. In addition to our interactive plenary sessions, workshops will allow participants to apply their learnings in small groups and a site visit and demonstration of electric buses in Barcelona will be organised.

Visiting TMB Barcelona will be of particular interest to participants, who will be able to experience busses which are in service and use different types of technologies, from plug-in systems to opportunity charging on the road and at terminals. TMB already operates BYD K9 busses on a number of different lines; additionally, within the EU funded ZeEUS project coordinated by the UITP, TMB is evaluating two new purely electric buses : the 12m Irizar i2e (overnight charging) and the 18m Solaris Urbino (overnight slow-charging, with opportunity charging at line terminals).
