ZeEUS – Zero Emission Urban Bus System

Bringing electrification to the heart of the urban bus network

EBSF_2 and ZeEUS share good practices with Indian stakeholders

On 29-30 March 2016 UITP India and DIMTS (Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System Ltd.) hosted in Delhi the 2nd UITP India bus seminar to discuss the key role of bus transport in improving livability in cities. In India, rapid urbanization and new mobility needs of the growing middle class combined with the difficulty to coordinate land use and transport planning, has resulted in a critical increase in the number of private vehicles. The host city, Delhi, is a paradigm of this challenge with 20% of urban land dedicated to roads, which is one of the highest scores in the world. The modal switch from cars to buses is particularly difficult where inadequate performance (e.g. poor regularity, speed and comfort, obsolete design and technologies) contribute to a reasonable inefficiency of this mode.

Michele Tozzi, EBSF_2 Project Manager, joined the two-day seminar to share the UITP commitment in EU-funded research projects on bus systems. Presented solutions from the EBSF_2 and ZeEUS projects focused on extending greener propulsion systems to the core part of the urban bus networks. As they aim to rethink the design of the bus and bus stops in order to reduce the physical and mental distance between buses and passengers.
