The fifth edition of the TRA conference, a biannual gathering that focuses on road, rail and waterborne transport research, took place in Paris from 1 – 17 April.

Organised by the European Commission together with the CEDR and the technology platforms ERRAC, ERTRAC and Waterborne TP, the conference gathers transport stakeholders to explore the most advanced research work and innovations, the latest technological and industrial developments and implementations and innovative policies both in Europe and worldwide.

Taking place on Wednesday 16th April, the invited session “Technologies for Electrification of Urban Bus Systems” chaired by Umberto Guida (UITP) involved the panelists Wolfgang Backhaus (Rupprecht Consult), Ulf Gustafsson (Volvo Bus), Mark Poulton (Transport for London) and Josep-Maria Armengol Villa (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) to discuss about the ZeEUS project’s activities and expected results. The presentations were followed by a lively discussion with the audience which demonstrates that the electrification of bus systems in Europe is a prominent topic that can contribute to answer to the growing challenges faced by cities in terms of mobility.
